Saudi Funding of Islamism

Good article in US News about the Saudi funding of Islamism here. Excerpt:

The Saudi funding program, Alexiev says, is "the largest worldwide propaganda campaign ever mounted"--dwarfing the Soviets' propaganda efforts at the height of the Cold War. The Saudi weekly Ain al-Yaqeen last year reported the cost as "astronomical" and boasted of the results: some 1,500 mosques, 210 Islamic centers, 202 colleges, and nearly 2,000 schools in non-Islamic countries.

The bad news is that this has already created a global problem. The good news is that stopping the flow of money will put a serious crimp in the operations of both the terrorists and the Wahhabi proselytizing campaign. That, however, will mean that the Iranian version of Islamism will have no competition other than with Western Liberalism, so if we dry up the Saudi funding pipeline we're going to have to do something pretty quickly about Iran.
