Russian support for US occupation forces would make scorched earth of Senator John Kerry's attack on the Bush administration's foreign policy, namely its failure to form effective alliances.

Me, I'm skeptical too. If any deal is being made, it is not for Russian troops, but a free-hand in Chechnya for Russia.

I just have no way of knowing. All I'm saying is that I think Bush has Putin by the short hairs. That's based on "inside info" by the way, so don't pass it on. Well, actually I don't care if you pass it on or not, because my inside sources know the inside of the office supply closet pretty well.

I wonder if part of the quid pro quo works like this: Russian casualties don't generate nearly the waves that American losses have, so they can do some pretty heavy lifting. The Russians would get out of this, payment and logistical support for their troops as well as training by American forces in urban warfare tactics - stuff they can take back to fight their GWOT battle in Chechnya.
