According to John Kerry his problem in the 2004 election was a combination of bad media coverage from conservative sources, and the Bin Laden tape that "scared Americans," before he had a chance to unscare them. So, I guess he missed the whole 9/11 "let's roll" message, huh? Here we are sitting calmly and passively in our seats waiting for the "authorities" to work their protective magic, and the terrorists got us flustered. Damn the luck!
He has a point about the media too. I mean, if liberal media had a total monopoly it would've been like a crew race where only one team gets a boat, and he could probably have managed to win a race like that. I wonder if his secret plan for Iraq and Al Qaeda employed a similar strategy? Come to think of it, isn't he essentially saying that Al Qaeda beat him?
Yes John, there may indeed be something right there under your finger.

How can someone come to the conclusion that the bin Laden tape had an affect on the election when there was no change in the polls (none of the polls of which I am aware) following the release of his tape? Or, for that matter, the previous tape that was released just before the bin Laden tape came out that investigators believe shows an American Muslim warning of more attacks?
And another thing - did anyone else out there notice that bin Laden's tape did not get as much air time and focus in the news as his tapes have in the past? I may be mistaken here but it just didn't seem like most news organizations devoted as much attention to this one. And it did not seem to elicit much attention or concern from average Americans. If that is the case, how can it be claimed that the tape influenced the election?

Truth is, the election was a lot closer than it ought to have been, so the notion that Kerry lost it because of the tape is just a face-saving fiction, and it says something about the man that he has to resort to it. We dodged a bullet on this deal.

Seemed like it got a lot of play to me. Maybe it was that the newsday was a lot more crowded than normal, so there just wasn't as much space for it. It was big news that he's still alive though. That's the down side. The up side is that he's apparently rather impotent. It bugs me that he's still robbing the rest of us of oxygen.
Posted by: Demosophist at November 21, 2004 12:39 AMThe origin of this post just seems like an unnecessary attack on Kerry. He lost the election, so why bother still trying to bring him down, he didn't even make a big deal out of contesting the election/vote counting. It's also not necessary for Kerry to complain about those issues, he lost, just deal with it, you lost because you didn't have enough vote support bottom line. If people are dumb enough to be influenced by a Bin Laden tape then they are not smart enough to get your vote anyways. Besides, like Bush said, he is not really concerned with him anyways (good job Bush). The democrats need to put a candidate up there who is more consistent and run a campaign as well as the republicans do, otherwise they will never win. The republicans know how to sell the American dream and turn mistakes into positives, not to mention how to attack in the right areas of your competition. And four years later...we will find out how we stand.

Well, if the direction is dictated by the kinds of observations made by Kerry the Democrats will be standing in an even deeper hole.
Posted by: Demosophist at November 29, 2004 06:16 PMKerry let the terrorists beat him. Damn! That's a good observation.
