Two Children of the Thirties

Long ago I decided that the fellow who deserves to be remembered for his interpretation of "The Sixties" was this guy, not this unmitigated sausage.

Swing low, sweet chariot.

I am sorry to hear that your friend, Marty Lipsett, has had a stroke. I know you admire him greatly.

PS Yes, Vonnegut is an idiot. I just read about him in my local Sunday paper. I cannot believe that I thought Breakfast of Champions was the funniest book I ever read. Mind you I was only 20 or so and stoned all the time when I did read it. What a simpering drip.

Pat:

I also thought Vonnegut part of my "voice." Part of the reason I feel so constantly sickened is the fact that so many of my beliefs about reformation have been falsified by the statements and allegiences of the "reformers." I'm sustained by the fact that there are a few people like Chistopher Hitchens left. But they are, in general, so mugged and repudiated that their lives are more tragic than inspirational.

Not for nothing does Marc Danziger ask Juan Cole why he hates poor people? You must despise the poor to subject their "case" to such an unmitigated assualt on reason. An the consequences aren't theoretical. The lack of universal health care has impoverished many families who would otherwise be self-sustaining. And the fewer self-susstaninging families, the less self-sustaining the culture.

Not that anyone gives a flying phuque.

dKOS and Josh Marshall are complete idiots. They've turned self-destruction into an art form, and have turned their case into a laughing stock.

But if my theory is correct they'll capitulate before they're beaten. In their own hearts they know they've fallen short... and they can't help but acknowledge the reality.

I'm thinking a nice patch of ground in the far north, adequately furbished with the best of modern technology and plug-ins would not be a bad thing. I'm giving it six more months before I bolt for good.

Let's suppose I watch the successful completion of the PNAC from afar. Where's the downside?

Happy Thanksgiving. I will comment on the other at a later date. :)
